Early and late effects of radiotherapy to the tissues of the head, neck and oral cavity

Streszczenie

Pacjenci poddawani leczeniu onkologicznemu coraz częściej są kierowani do gabinetów stomatologicznych. Celem wizyt jest przeprowadzenie sanacji jamy ustnej przed wdrożeniem leczenia oraz pomoc w leczeniu skutków ubocznych, powstałych w trakcie terapii choroby nowotworowej. W artykule omówiono wpływ radioterapii na stan jamy ustnej pacjenta oraz  mogące wystąpić powikłania.

 

Summary

Patients having treatment for neoplasm are being ever more frequently referred to dental offices. The aim of the visit is to remove all sources of infection from the oral cavity before commencing  treatment  and also for help with the side effects as a result of the treatment of neoplasms. The article discusses the influence of radiotherapy on the condition of the oral cavity of the patient and on the complications that may arise.
