The role of appropriate oral hygiene and professional dental procedures in the maintenance of dental implant

Streszczenie

Nieustannie wzrasta liczba pacjentów poddawanych leczeniu implantoprotetycznemu, które stanowi obecnie metodę z wyboru w uzupełnianiu braków zębowych. Podstawą osteointegracji, długotrwałego utrzymania wszczepu zębowego w jamie ustnej oraz jego prawidłowej stabilizacji na podłożu kostnym nie jest jedynie właściwa kwalifikacja pacjenta i prawidłowe przeprowadzenie samego zabiegu implantacji. Najważniejszym aspektem opieki stomatologicznej nad pacjentami użytkującymi wszczepy śródkostne wydaje się być właściwa edukacja w zakresie utrzymania prawidłowej higieny jamy ustnej oraz regularne, profesjonalne zabiegi profilaktyczne w gabinecie stomatologicznym, jako że akumulacja płytki nazębnej na powierzchni implantu prowadzi do rozwoju stanu zapalnego tkanek miękkich, a w dalszej perspektywie czasowej do stopniowej lub szybko postępującej utarty kości wyrostka zębodołowego obserwowanej w przebiegu periimplantitis. W niniejszym opracowaniu przedstawiono zasady utrzymania właściwej higieny jamy ustnej, procedury stomatologiczne wdrażane w profilaktyce zakażeń okołowszczepowych, a także protokoły postępowania leczniczego w przebiegu periimplantitis.

Abstract

Constantly increasing number of patients undergoing treatment with prosthetic implants, which is at present the treatment of choice for the replacement of missing teeth. The basis of osseointegration, long term retainment of tooth implants in the oral cavity and proper stability on bony support are not the only proper qualification for the implant but also the procedure itself. The most important aspect of dental care in patients using intraosseous implants seems to be appropriate education in maintaining proper oral hygiene and regular professional preventive procedures in the dental office, as the accumulation of dental plaque on the implant surface leads to the development of an inflammatory condition of the soft tissues and in the further perspective to the gradual or quick development of progressive wear of the dental alveolus observed in the course of periimplantitis. In this study a presentation was given of the principles of maintaining oral hygiene, dental procedures for prevention of implant associated infections and also protocols for treatment of periimplantitis.
