Leczenie endodontyczne – wizyta bólowa (Endodontic treatment – emergency visit)A: Good afternoon, Doctor, my name is Mr. John Clark, I’m here today because since yesterday, I have had a terrible toothache.
B: Good afternoon, Mr Clark, yes, I have received information from the registration desk. Now I would like to perform a medical and dental interview with you.
A: Of course, hopefully you can help me.
B: Please tell me, do you suffer from any general diseases?
A: No.
B: Do you take any medications?
A: No, only supplements like vitamin C and D.
B: Do you have any allergies?
A: No.
B: Alright, please tell me how would you describe your toothache?
A: Very strong, dull pain in the bottom, especially at night. I could barely sleep last night. Additionally, the pain starts when I drink hot tea or cold water, which prolongs the pain. It lasts for almost a week.
B: I understand, I will now need to perform an intraoral and extraoral examinaon.
A: Ok, Doctor.
B: Fortunately, you are not swollen, and according to my dental check-up I see a large cavity in tooth number 46. You reacted positively to the percussion test, and the reaction to the cold test is prolonged. It seems that you have the inflammaon of the pulp, however, I still need to take a periapical X-ray.
A: Of course, I will follow you. (10 minutes later)
B: On the X-ray I can see a deep caries reaching the pulp chamber. I assume that you can have irreversible pulpis. The good news is that the inflammation didn’t spread towards the periapical region.
A: I see, so how can you help me, Doctor?
B: We will need to perform a root canal treatment. A: Is it painful?
B: No, don’t worry, I’m going to give you a local an aesthesia and I will perform this treatment under the microscope. I will try to finish the treatment in the one visit.
A: That’s really good news, I can’t stand this pain anymore.
B: I can imagine. I will also explain all the costs, protocols, and give you an informed consent form for the endodontic treatment, for you to sign.
A: Ok, Doctor, I’m ready.
B: Perfect, let’s begin.
