Summary
The temperomandibular joint, despite its small dimensions, has a very complicated construction. In addition, its situation in the vicinity of anatomically important structures poses a large problem both in the diagnosis of its disease as well as its treatment. Currently, in the face of these problems, we have arthroscopy – a new method that is effective, minimally invasive and relatively safe.
This study is a review of the literature regarding arthroscopy of the temperomandibular joints as well as a method both for diagnosis and its use in operative techniques together with indications for and against the procedure, its effectiveness for treating joint disturbances using this method.
Key words: temporomandibular joint (TMJ), arthroscopy, TMJ dysfunction
