Rheumatic fever – granulomatosis with polyangiitis  and its symptoms in the oral cavity

Streszczenie

Ziarniniakowatość z zapaleniem naczyń – granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), zwana dawniej ziarniniakiem Wegenera (granulomatosis Wegeneri),  jest manifestującym się różnymi objawami schorzeniem reumatologicznym. Może dotyczyć górnych dróg oddechowych, płuc, nerek, w rzadkich przypadkach także skóry. U  5-13%  chorych na GPA zmiany mogą występować również  w jamie ustnej, dlatego niezwykle ważne dla właściwego postępowania diagnostycznego jest, by lekarz stomatolog  znał objawy choroby.

Summary

Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), previously known as Wegner’s granulomatosis, manifests with various rheumatological symptoms. It may involve the lower airways, lungs, kidneys, and in rare cases also skin. In  5-13%  of patients with GPA changes may also appear in the oral cavity. It is therefore extremely important for proper diagnostic procedure, that the dental surgeon knows the symptoms of the disease.
