Tranposition of the left canine and maxillary lateral incisor in a teenage patient – case report

Streszczenie
W pracy opisano proces diagnostyczny i zastosowane aparaty ortodontyczne u 13-letniej pacjentki, która zgłosiła się do poradni ortodontycznej z powodu braku zęba w okolicy lewego bocznego zęba siecznego szczęki. Dokumentacja radiologiczna wykazała pełną transpozycję kła i bocznego zęba siecznego szczęki oraz obecność przetrwałego kła mlecznego po stronie lewej. Brak miejsca w łuku doprowadził do zatrzymania stałego lewego kła oraz do nieznacznego przesunięcia linii pośrodkowej w górnym łuku w stronę lewą. Pacjentka leczona była z zastosowaniem aparatów stałych, nie było konieczności wspomagania chirurgicznego przy sprowadzaniu zatrzymanego kła. Z uwagi na ryzyko resorpcji korzeni zębów oraz blaszki zbitej wyrostka zębodołowego nie przywracano prawidłowej kolejności zębów objętych transpozycją.

Abstract
The article describes the diagnostic process and orthodontic appliances that were used in a 13-year old female patient who came to orthodontic clinic due to a missing tooth in the area of the left lateral incisor of the maxilla. Radiological documentation showed complete transposition of the canine and maxillary lateral incisor and the presence of a persistent deciduous canine on the left side. The lack of space in the arch led to the retention of the permanent left canine and to a slight shift of the midline in the upper arch to the left. The patient was treated with fixed appliance, there was no need for surgical assistance in bringing back impacted canine into normal position. Due to the risk of resorption of tooth roots and the cortical plate of the alveolar process, the correct order of the transposed teeth was not restored.
