Summary
The temperomandibular joint, despite its small dimensions, has a very complicated construction. In addition, its situation in the vicinity of anatomically important structures, it poses a large problem both in the diagnosis of its disease as well as its treatment. Currently, in the face of these problems, we have arthroscopy – a new method that is effective, minimally invasive and relatively safe.
This study is a review of the literature regarding arthroscopy of the temperomandibular joints as well as a method both for diagnosis. Evaluation was also made regarding its use in operative techniques together with indications for and against the procedure, its effectiveness for treating joint disturbances using this method.
Key words: temporomandibular joint (TMJ), arthroscopy, TMJ dysfunction
