Complications of oral piercing and the role of dentist in their prevention and treatment

Streszczenie
Powikłania wynikające z wykonania piercingu w obrębie jamy ustnej mogą pojawiać się krótko po wykonanym zabiegu oraz długoterminowo. Ponadto mogą przebiegać w sposób zlokalizowany, a także rozprzestrzeniać się na cały organizm. Istnieje niski poziom świadomości pacjentów na temat potencjalnych zagrożeń zdrowotnych związanych z piercingiem jamy ustnej. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie ryzyka, jakie niesie wykonanie piercingu w jamie ustnej, oraz roli stomatologa w zapobieganiu jego potencjalnym powikłaniom.

Abstract
Oral piercing can result in early and long-term complications within oral cavity. Moreover, they can proceed as localised or systemic processes. Patients are unaware of possible health risks related to oral piercing. The review aims to talk over potential risks of oral piercing and show dentist’s role in preventing such complications.
